What is Paxton Key?
Utilizing the built-in Bluetooth® wireless technology in Paxton10 readers, your smart device can securely communicate with the Paxton10 system to grant or deny access through any Paxton10 door.
Paxton Key also enables the user to carry out predefined building management functionality, such as setting the intruder alarm, simply by presenting their smart credential.

Please note, on November 30th 2022 Paxton Key v1 will be removed from service. Our newer, improved version of Paxton Key has superseded this version.
Why do I need it?
The Paxton Key app allows access through doors with your smartwatch or without ever taking your smartphone out of your bag or pocket. The free Bluetooth® smart credentials are easy to issue and use, and allow you to open any Paxton10 door using the Paxton Key app.
Available for iOS and Android phones, as well as Apple Watches and Wear OS, the Paxton Key app offers ultimate convenience and ease of use.

Three modes of operation offers flexible access options to suit your needs:
- Touch to enter: tap the reader with smart device in 1-2m range
- Token mode: present smart device to reader as a token
- Long range: ideal for car park barriers, smart device read at 5-10m range
How to get started with Paxton Key:
Bluetooth® is enabled on the Paxton10 readers
System administrator issues users with Smart Credentials via their user record in the Paxton10 user interface in the ‘Add a credential’ section
The user receives an email containing download instructions for the Paxton Key app

The user registers their Smart Credential in the Paxton Key app
Please note: Paxton10 v3.3 is required to use the Paxton Key app. If your Paxton10 site is running software v3.2 or earlier, you must update your software to make use of the free Paxton10 smart credentials.
The latest version is required to support the use of a single credential across multiple Paxton10 sites. Please contact Support for more information.
