Paxton strengthens investment in South Africa as Solo opens new opportunities for security installers
Paxton is significantly increasing its investment in South Africa by expanding its local team to support installers and customers across the country.
The investment follows the launch of Solo, Paxton’s new phone-based, cloud-hosted access control system, which is opening up new opportunities for installers across the South African market.
Werner Geldenhuys, Paxton’s Country Sales Manager for South Africa, said: “We are committed to the South African market for the long term and see a lot of potential for future growth. Solo is helping us to unlock some of that potential by giving installers a simple and cost-effective way to offer access control to a wider range of customers where access control wasn’t viable before.”
With Solo, your phone is the system and the key. The setup comprises just three components – the Solo Controller, Solo DoorTag and Paxton Solo app. Installers can create and manage the system through the app, while users use their smartphones to gain access.
Solo combines the simplicity of standalone with the power of networked, without requiring an on-site server. With minimal hardware and straightforward installation, Solo helps installers fit more in a day. It is also game-changingly affordable and offers recurring revenue opportunities for security installers.
Werner added: “For installers, Solo changes the way an access control project can be approached. There is less hardware to specify, no server or data network to install and the system can be set up and managed from a phone. That makes it much easier to take on smaller jobs that might not have justified a traditional access control system, while the subscription model gives installers the opportunity to build recurring revenue into their business.”
Paxton has been operating in South Africa since 2013, building an established presence in the market through its distribution partners. The company opened its first Experience Centre in Johannesburg in 2023, followed by a second centre in Cape Town in 2025.
Paxton Experience Centres give installers and customers the opportunity to see Paxton’s solutions in action, get hands-on with the technology and meet with the local team. Installers can purchase Paxton products through Reditron and Regal branches across South Africa.
Werner added: “We have invested in creating places where installers can experience our technology first-hand, and we now want to build on that by putting more people into the market. This gives us a much stronger platform to develop relationships with installers and understand what they need from us.”
Paxton is expanding its local team to provide greater regional coverage, with further recruitment planned as the business grows. Two new Regional Sales Managers focused on supporting installers in the inland and coastal regions, respectively, means access to Paxton expertise is much more convenient for security installers. The addition of a dedicated Sales office, alongside Paxton’s global Technical Support team provide the world-class project support Paxton are known for.
Training is also being expanded, with dedicated Solo training being delivered across South Africa through Paxton’s distribution partners.
Werner concluded: “There is a real opportunity to grow access control in South Africa, and we want to be part of that. We have the products, the distribution and now a growing team and training programme to support installers as the market develops.”
