Increasing Site Security with Net2 Access Control
30th October 2023
It’s now more important than ever to ensure you have the correct security measures in place to give your customers the best experience with their access control system. We’ve put together some useful guidelines and recommendations when using Net2.
• Employ centralised access management to reduce user error
Managing a number of doors and users on a single system increases efficiency and reduces the chance of making mistakes. Net2 can manage 1 to 1,000 doors and up to 50,000 users, meaning it is scalable to meet your customers’ needs.
• Always run the latest version of the software and firmware
With ever-changing advances in technology, keeping software and firmware up to date ensures products can perform to their full potential and are as secure as possible. Running the latest software version will also give your customers access to all the available features.
• Implement network access control standards to secure assets
Network access control standards, such as IEE 802.1X, control access to a network with security policies. This standard not only handles access authentication and authorisation functions but also controls the data accessed by specific users by recognising users, their devices and their network roles.
• Make use of Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs) for network security and segregation
VLANs allow us to separate data packets from multiple networks such as departmental and critical servers. Even if a hacker gains access to a small logical network, they won’t be able to view or directly attack devices on other VLANs. This adds security layers to your network.
• Use firewalls & strong passwords to prevent cyberattacks
Install a next generation firewall that performs extra functions like application layer inspection, intrusion prevention and detection, and securing web traffic. Create strong passwords with at least 12 characters.
• Restrict access to the system on other devices
Only managing a security system on trusted devices can limit the chance of accidental data exposure. Net2 offers the Secure Mode feature which will restrict access for Net2 to the server machine only. If you require client access, away from the server machine, this can be achieved by using our Net2Online service.
• Attend installer training to stay on top of latest technology
Installing a reliable access control system is the first step to keeping a building safe, but it is how you set up and navigate the system that is what really makes a site secure. We provide free installer training. These are practical workshops where installers get to work hands-on with our products and they will also have the opportunity to discuss installation projects with our expert trainers and other security professionals.
We recommend customers download the latest version of Net2 for the best possible experience. Get the latest version now.
