Kate Hotson, Projects & Events Manager

Here at Paxton, we believe it is important to foster a sense of community among staff, as the people we employ are just as important as the products we create. This month we spoke to Kate Hotson, Projects & Events Manager, about her role within the company, and how she helps our staff embody the values we hold as a business.

Kate worked in a number of different industries and roles prior to joining Paxton just over nine years ago: “I’ve had a wide range of jobs over the years, I previously worked for Legal & General for 10 years, before becoming a Bar Manager at The Dome, which is a concert hall and event space in Brighton, England.”

As Projects & Events Manager at Paxton, Kate heavily focuses on company culture, which means she regularly works with all of the different teams and departments across the entire company: “Everything I do at Paxton comes under the umbrella of our ‘Company Culture’ objective, which essentially means making Paxton a great place to work.

“I organize all the internal events and the company’s social calendar. This includes things like company parties, pub quizzes, football tournaments and much more.” “As well as organizing projects and events that benefit our staff, Kate leads important initiatives that benefit the local community and charities: “I am also responsible for our charity activity, such as facilitating volunteering opportunities and fundraising days. Each year we support a different charity in the local community, and for 2021 we are supporting the Clock Tower Sanctuary in Brighton, England and Habitat for Humanity in the U.S.”

This year our staff are taking part in the Paxton Around the World Challenge. The Paxton team are individually walking, running, and cycling; then logging their mileage to collectively get us around the world on a virtual tour, stopping by all 33 countries where we have offices or personnel, and where we distribute Paxton products.

The next big task on Kate’s list is supporting Paxton people get back into the office. “At the moment I am helping the Facilities and Health & Safety team with our ‘return to work plan’. We currently still have over 100 members of our team working from home, and we can’t wait to get them back!”

Kate went on to say what she loves most about working at Paxton: “I love the passion and commitment from everyone around me at Paxton, but my favorite part of my job is that I feel what I do on a daily basis actually makes a difference. I feel a strong connection to the company’s values and overall vision.”

Outside of work, Kate keeps busy in lots of ways: “I love cooking, eating out and trying out new restaurants in Brighton. I’m also a keen camper and love to travel, but I’m also a bit of a film geek. I try to go to the cinema once a week and always keep hold of my tickets for my scrapbook!”
