We have reinvented access control with Solo

Our Product and Development team, alongside Paxton CEO Adam Stroud, created Solo to provide a simple access control system that opens limitless opportunities for security installers in all of our active markets.

No servers. No on-site network infrastructure. No complicated setup. Just secure, cloud-based access control managed directly from a smartphone.

Using the Paxton Solo app and the security of a phone’s built-in biometric authentication, users can unlock doors securely without the need for cards or fobs. Administrators can manage users, update permissions, and view events directly from the very same app, from anywhere in the world.

The system is built around two hardware components: the Solo Controller and the Solo DoorTag.

The DoorTag replaces a traditional reader and requires no power or wiring, making installation incredibly quick. Users simply present their phone to the Solo DoorTag, which is scanned using NFC. The phone then communicates with the cloud to confirm access permissions, before granting access via the Solo Controller using secure BLE technology.

The controller manages the door, but all decision making and communication with the cloud is handled by the user’s phone, removing the need for on-site infrastructure while keeping installation flexible and cost-effective.

To control access, Solo works with electronic locking devices such as maglocks, electric strikes, and other electronic door hardware.

Built for installers

For security installers, Solo opens limitless opportunities.

Reduced hardware and minimal on-site infrastructure mean installations take a fraction of the time of wired, networked access control. Installers can get systems up and running quickly with less time on site to install security on each door, allowing them to take on more projects.

Solo also makes professional access control viable for sites that may previously have been considered too small or where budget wasn’t available for a traditional access control system. From small businesses and short-term lets to gyms, gates, remote buildings, and temporary sites, Solo gives installers a practical solution for a huge range of applications.

Because the system is managed directly through the app, there’s less reliance on customer IT infrastructure, making projects easier to deliver, manage, and support remotely.

Beyond installation, Solo creates opportunities for recurring revenue. With a low-cost per door/per month subscription model, installers can generate continuous revenue alongside their ongoing service plans, remote administration, and system management, helping to create more long-term value and stronger customer relationships. It can also be deployed as a straightforward fit-and-forget solution for installers who don’t wish to offer ongoing services.

Installer feedback

Over the spring, we met hundreds of security installers at our fully booked and extended Tech Tour across the UK. The response to Solo has been incredible, with installers getting hands-on with the system and seeing first-hand how access control can be installed and managed differently:

“Paxton’s new product, Solo, is outstanding” – Jamie Meads, Fireserv UK

“This could be a real gamechanger” – Matt Buck, Breedon Electrical Fire & Security Ltd

“This is a fantastic bit of technology that I think could be very powerful and simple at the same time.” – Aaron Bonshor, Access Control Solutions UK Ltd

“With no on-site network needed and a super simple setup, it’s a really smart, flexible option for modern access control.” – Thistle Fire & Security Ltd

With no on-site network needed and a super simple setup, it’s a really smart, flexible option for modern access control.” – Thistle Fire & Security Ltd

It neatly fills that gap between standalone and fully networked systems…Clean simple and exactly what’s been missing for a lot of installs.” – GT Connected

Game-changingly affordable

Solo is designed to make modern access control more accessible for both installers and end users, helping drive wider adoption of cloud-based access control across the security industry.

This makes Solo a fraction of the cost of many traditional access control solutions, while still delivering the flexibility, remote management, and real-time control expected from a modern cloud-based system.

Training and free kits

With the Tech Tour complete, we’re pleased to offer a series of ongoing webinars for anyone that didn’t make it along to see the introduction to Solo. This one-hour digital session is designed to help business owners understand the opportunity with Solo, and where it fills a gap in the access control market. Free training sessions are also available to help installers get started with the system and provide an opportunity to discuss potential Solo projects with the people who know the product best.

We’re also continuing to give away 10,000 free Solo one-door kits as part of the launch, with thousands already claimed since April and more still available.
