What is a Net2 Classic? |
Net2 Classic is one of our legacy access control products. Net2 Classic door controllers have been unavailable to buy in the UK since January 2014 and have been out of warranty since 2019. The transition to Net2 Plus controllers is necessary to take advantage of new features and compatibility with future software versions. |
What is Net2 v7? |
Net2 v7 is a software release that will be available from January 2026; it will include new security features including multi-factor authentication. |
What is multi-factor authentication (MFA)? |
Multi-factor authentication is a security measure that requires users to provide two or more verification factors to gain access to a resource, like an online account. |
What does it mean for Net2 v7 software to ‘not support’ Net2 Classic controllers? |
This means that from v7 onwards a system containing Net2 Classic controllers will not be able to upgrade the software on the system. |
Will Paxton’s Technical Support team continue to assist with Net2 Classic controllers? |
Yes, we will continue to provide technical support for all Paxton products including systems containing Net2 Classic controllers. |
How will I know how many Net2 Classics are on a system? |
When you log into Net2 v6.9, a pop-up message will appear. This pop-up will tell you how many Net2 Classic door controllers are on the system. You will also be able to export a list with the name and serial number of all the Net2 Classic door controllers on the system. Click here to see an example of the pop-up message. |
What Operator levels will see this pop-up message in the Net2 software? |
All operator levels will see the pop-up message on the home screen when they log into v6.9. |
Does the message appear on Net2Online? |
Net2Online will not be able to show the message regarding the Net2 Classics being on the network. This is due to the message being generated by the configuration utility. |
Will a failure to upgrade to v7 stop the system from working? |
A failure to upgrade to v7 will not stop the system from working. |
What is the impact of remaining on v6.9? |
If you choose not to upgrade to v7, your system will remain on v6.9. It will be a fully functional system with all the features and benefits of that version of the software. |
What happens if a user attempts to upgrade a system with a Net2 Classic door controller to v7? |
An error message will appear, and the installation will be blocked. The system will remain on v6.9. |
At what point will the failure to upgrade message appear? |
Just before installation, when a user clicks on 'Install', an error pop-up message will appear. |
Does a Net2 Classic need to be online to prevent upgrade? |
The Net2 Classic only needs to be in the database to prevent upgrade. If your site has both Net2 Classic controllers and Net2 Plus controllers installed, your whole system will not successfully upgrade to v7, when available from January 2026 onwards. |
What happens if a new installation of v7 is carried out on a system containing Net2 Classic controllers? |
Net2 v7 will not operate on an installation containing Net2 Classic controllers. |
Are you offering a trade in or a deal on replacements for Net2 Classic controllers? |
We will not be implementing a trade in programme for Net2 Classic controllers. |
Will literature and technical documents about Net2 Classic controllers be on the Paxton website? |
