St Patrick’s House
Net2 Provides Integrated Multi-Tenant Solution With Dahua
St Patrick’s House, Cardiff, is a large site that is home to several businesses, with over 500 employees in total. The building recently underwent complete refurbishment, including a contract to replace and upgrade the security systems throughout.
Requirement
The owners of St. Patrick’s House wanted an access control system that could be easily expanded, and could integrate with their other systems, including fire alarm and CCTV, on a single platform to ensure it was simple to use. As a shared office building the solution needed to be flexible, allowing them to create different access permissions for the car parks, front entrance, lifts and individual businesses.
The owners of St Patrick’s House wanted a complete solution that was going to be secure and easy to use, bringing access control, CCTV, intruder and fire alarms all together in one system. Paxton was an obvious fit.

Solution
Select Security Specialists worked with Oprema over a six month period to provide a solution that would meet the owner’s requirements, and the needs of the tenants. Select Security Specialists chose to install Net2 across the whole site. Net2 is a user friendly and flexible networked access control system, designed to make the management of any site straightforward.
Leon Window, Sales Director at Select Security Specialists, says: “We have been working with Paxton for over 10 years. The owners of St Patrick’s House wanted a complete solution that was going to be secure and easy to use, bringing access control, CCTV, intruder and fire alarms all together in one system. Paxton was an obvious fit.”
Net2 electronically controls the car park barriers and entrances on one network, meaning that the system can be administered from a central PC. Select Security Specialists installed Net2 Entry Vandal Resistant panels, a video/audio door entry system, on the two car park barriers as well as the two entrances to the building. The four panels were then linked to the reception desk with a full colour Net2 Entry monitor so that the receptionists could manage visitors arriving on site.
Every door in St. Patrick’s House has been fitted with Paxton’s P50 MIFARE® proximity readers to manage the movement of people around the building. For extra security the owners of the building opted to expand the system to include the two lifts. Users have free access to the lifts but must present a valid token to the P50 MIFARE® proximity reader inside, before the restricted floor buttons are available. Net2 was also integrated with Dahua’s IP CCTV. If someone forces a door or tries to enter a restricted area, a CCTV image is flagged and raises an alert to the system administrator.
Result
The integrated Net2 system has increased security throughout the building. The simple Net2 software can be controlled from anywhere in the building and is easily adjusted over the local area network. The combination of Paxton’s Net2 Entry, P50 MIFARE® proximity readers, Net2 software and Dahua CCTV integration has provided a comprehensive solution for St Patrick’s House that has addressed their requirements and is simple for the owners and companies within the shared building to manage.
